Despite loving the internet and computers in general I am still a traditionalist when it comes to reading books i still enjoy leafing through the pages, leaving sticky notes in the pages that will be useful.
When it came to starting to learn webdesign I followed suit and bought a selection of books, folding the pages open and typing the code into notepad was a very rewarding way to learn and I still have those books now, I maybe don’t use them as much as I used to but if I need them I know where they are.
Below are a few books which may help you on your quest to learn webdesign or site management.
Wordpress is a fantastic platform for developing your website, with many free themes and plugins to suit all purposes.
HTML is the foundation for websites and can be a lot of fun to learn, give it a go.

Learning webdesign, sounds simple?
When it comes to web design there are many different things to take into account such as:
What programming language?
Do you want to learn HTML or use WYSIWYG editor?
How much time do you have?
What do you want to do?
The basic language in webdesign is HTML or Hyper Text Markup Language, this controls the way your browser displays websites on your page, image text etc. the best way to learn HTML is to give it a go, use notepad type in some examples and load the file into a browser to see what happens the w3schools is a very useful resource, go there and take a look.
If you are looking to set up a simple site with the ability to update easily and at minimal cost then I would use wordpress, after they are set-up it takes very little to maintain. some hosting companies such as Servage offer a simple one click install taking any problems out of the install process.
If you would like to learn more about web design than you could try your local college/night school for courses that would be suitable or try some of the online course providers such as Vision2learn or UK Home Learning College.
There are also many, many books to cover all areas of web design take a look at play.com.
My advice would be to give it a go, set-up a site about a hobby or something your passionate about and give it a go.

I purchased my first domain with 123reg back in 2000 and have had very few problems with them.
The control panel has all the features you could need:
Online control panel
Full DNS control
Email forwarding
Web forwarding
which enables you to keep your domains and hosting seperate if you want too, that said 123reg can also offer a hosting solution for most websites.
The pricing for domains is very reasonable with discounts for bulk purchases. with .co.uk’s for £2.99+vat per year, .com’s for £9.99+vat per year plus they have a full range of domain extensions available.

I have been using Servage to host a large ammount of my websites for the past two years. I have to say they are fantastic, very few problems and any that do arise are dealt with quickly by some of the most compatent staff I have encountered. The specs are fantastic and in all likelyhood very few sites ever reach the capacity that is offered for the price:
750 GB Web Space
7500 GB Transfer
Unlimited FTP Accounts
1000 MySQL Databases
PHP v 4.4 & 5.2
Zend Optimizer
Unlimited IMAP/POP3 Mailboxes
…plus many other features
One other huge bonus is the S: drive. this feature allows you to connect via the internet to your hosting storage area and use it like an extra hard drive.
